- The Alaska Department of Fish and
Game has released the Upper Cook Inlet
- Forecast of the 2008 Sockeye Salmon
Run. Fisheries Biologists at Fish and Game
- are projecting a run of 5.6 million sockeye salmon for next year. A harvest
- of 3.9 million sockeye salmon is
expected by all user groups. Fisheries
- Biologist Mark Willette compared
this forecast to previous years. He said
- that it is 200,000 fish below the
20-year average harvest by all user groups,
- so the forecast is slightly
smaller. The forecast for the Kenai
River is 3.1 million fish.
- That is a 16 percent drop from the
20-year average of 3.7 million for the Kenai River.
- The Kasilof River forecast will be
higher in 2008 according to Willette.
- The Kasilof River forcasted run of
1.3 million is 33 percent greater than the
- 20-year average. The sockeye salmon
run forecast for the Susitna River of
- 344,000 sockeye is 24 percent less
than the 20-year average run of 453 thousand.
- The sockeye salmon run forecast for
Fish Creek of 53,000 fish is 67 percent less
- than the 20-year average run.
Meanwhile, the sockeye salmon run for
- Crescent River of 100,000 sockeyes
is seven percent less than the 20-year average.
